Welcome to the fold… Campers create 2D and 3D paper crafts using traditional methods (like origami) and new methods involving the laser cutter. Working with various types of paper, campers learn about digital design, problem solving, and prototyping.

The world needs more board games! Campers learn board game design, story development, and collaboration in this camp. Using advanced manufacturing tools such as laser cutters and 3D printers throughout the week, campers create and keep their own unique board games.

Stop Motion Animation

This camp fosters collaboration as campers learn to set build, tell stories, and bring characters to life! Campers experiment with various artistic forms using clay, painting, drawing, and other materials to create objects and build sets. Projects include film-related topics such as storyboarding, production, and editing.

RPG 2.0

Time to level up. In 2.0, campers flesh out their simple game designs with more complicated puzzles and cooler cutscenes. They’ll learn techniques for quicker game design and focus on advanced dungeon creation and characters. Campers grow as game designers and players.

Printmaking

Campers explore various forms of printmaking–multi-color linocuts , screenprinting, and other cool printmaking processes. Campers develop skills in layering, carving, composition and design using diverse materials and techniques.

Digital Illustration

Masterpieces in pixels. Campers develop digital drawing skills with professional tools like drawing tablets and Adobe Photoshop. By the end of the week campers have a portfolio of creative work and the skills to continue illustrating digitally on their own.

Minecraft

This year Minecraft camp is setting aside 3D printing and focusing on design challenges. We start the week exploring what makes a fun obstacle course and work our way to designing an amazing capture the flag map. Creativity, collaboration, and design skills are the focus in this MC camp!

Can you laser this!? Wood? Yep! Paper? Sure! Metal water bottles or glass? You bet! Campers explore the many possibilities of the laser machine. Campers apply creative thinking and problem solving skills to build objects from scratch.

This advanced sewing camp welcomes campers that feel comfortable working a sewing machine or have previously taken one of our sewing camps. Campers dive deeper into patterning and project creation.

Art in RPG

RPG Maker lets campers add awesome new visual elements to their RPG games. During Art in RPG campers learn a variety of tools to edit and create their very own art assets to stick into their collaboratively made games.

Budding engineers learn how forces interact with the structures around them and how different building materials can be used to counteract these forces. Campers perform hands-on and digital experiments involving bridge and tower construction and they end with designing and fabricating their own water powered rockets.

This camp is for our littlest makers and involves hands-on creation using materials like paper, cardboard, glue, water based inks and more. Campers learn teamwork, spatial reasoning, and problem solving by working together to make big things.

We’re looking for Central Illinois’ next great jewelry designers! During this session Campers learn design strategies to create their own custom jewelry. Campers use laser engravers, 3D printers, resin printers, as well as traditional jewelry-making techniques in order to bring their visions to life.

Looking to channel an inner version of your favorite character cosplay style? In this session campers will design and sew clothing inspired by their favorite characters. Arduino / Robotics

We like to move it, move it. This camp is all about designing and building things that move using servo motors and Arduino Unos. Campers learn basic coding and design skills to make cardboard inch worms, dancing marionettes, and more! Hot glue and creativity are necessary!

Robots make good teammates. In this session campers use Computercraft to program robots to do the hard work for them in Minecraft games. Campers leave with cool new strategies for game play. No prior programming knowledge required.

Last Days of Summer

Creative freedom! This week the Fab Lab is open for morning (9AM-Noon) and afternoon (1PM-4PM) sessions when campers can work on new project ideas or build upon projects they started in previous summer camps. Staff are not providing programing this week but will help run tools and answer questions. Campers should bring a snack and water if attending these sessions.
