iSchool Practicums

User Experience Practicum

Join our UX team, which is engaged in a top-to-bottom evaluation of the User Experience of the Fab Lab, including the physical space, our online presence, our public computing provision, and how those different mediums intersect. You’ll have access to our data and systems, as well as mentoring from our management team and collaboration with our area specialists.

Youth Services / Digital Literacy Practicum

Develop and teach weekly basic digital literacy programming after-school for K-5 students at the Urbana Neighborhood Connections Center, with a focus on providing necessary baseline computing and information literacy skills for academic achievement.

Documentation and Curriculum Practicum

Fab Lab has years’ worth of curriculum and instructions, and much history and many activities remain partially documented. This practicum could focus on organizing, archiving, analyzing, and making that information more accessible, or on creating new curriculum and tutorials for partially or non-documented workshops and procedures.

Build Your Own

If your interests align with ours (making, tinkering, STEAM, digital literacy, design thinking, youth, teen, and underserved populations, user experience, informal learning, metacognitive skills, curriculum development, instruction, assessment, education research) and you have an idea for a mutually-beneficial project, feel free to pitch it to us. The same goes for building class final projects partly or fully upon work in the lab.
