Champaign-Urbana Community Fab Lab

Andrew Knight and Jeff Ginger will be hosting Volunteers-Only open hours now on Monday nights for the summer of 2013 (up through the end of July), from 6-9pm, as a pilot program. It's a chance for volunteers to get extra time with the equipment as a reward for spending so much of their time helping people and maintaining the lab.

You qualify as an eligible volunteer if you do any of the following:

1) Have a name tag and help out for a set of regular hours (3) at least once per week

The tools and materials section has been updated to reflect our current offerings. I've also made the example creations page a little friendlier.

Luke, you will be happy to know that all pictures are now hosted on the Fab Lab server.

I've updated several modules and the core files of the Drupal install. The good news is that this should cut down on the spam messages we've been all suffering. The bad news is that this may have set your user navigation links back to their defaults.

To better serve and invest in our local community the Fab Lab has partnered with several anchor institutions to help introduce people (especially kids) to the process of making. We are helping them to set up their own maker spaces as well as coordinating a variety of collaborations, including workshops, outreach events and consultation. We also continue to retain connections to the global and national Fab Lab community.

Please note: The laser won't be fixed by Sunday's open hours.  You should still come to the lab and check out our vinyl cutter, silhouette, 3D printer, electronics lab, and 3D routers!

As soon as the laser is running, we will post to let you know!

The Fab Lab will be open regular hours, 12-6, on Sunday 4/8.

Due to a Winter Weather Advisory, the fab lab will not be open Thursday evening (January 12, 2012)

The Workshops & Classes page has been updated.  It now contains an embedded Google Calendar, and will be updated continuously.

The Epilog laser is back online, in time for tonight's open session.

The Fab Lab will be closed the following days over the 2011/2012 Holliday Season:

• Tuesday, November 22nd - Thanksgiving Break
• Thursday, November 24th - Thanksgiving Day
• Sunday, December 25th - Christmas Day
• Sunday, January 1st - New Years Day

Open Sessions for Summer starting May 15, 2011:

• Sunday afternoon from Noon to 6 pm
• Monday evening closed
• Thursday evening from 4 to 9 pm
• Available for scheduled classes and activities in addition to the normal operating hours
