Location / Hours

The CU Community Fab Lab main location is on the south end of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, adjacent to the ACES library, across the street from the green houses.

Community After-School Locations

Can’t get to the main lab? That’s okay, we have several locations around the community with access to Fab Lab equipment, programming, staff and volunteers. They were made possible through the Illinois DCEO funded Digital Literacy for ALL grant.


The Urbana Free Library (210 W Green Street, Urbana, IL 61801) hosts Teen Open Lab most Mon-Thu – 3 to 5:30 pm. Fab Lab staff and volunteers regularly assist with programming for youth.


Champaign Public Library (200 W Green Street, Champaign, IL 61820) has Fab Lab equipment and programming available in their Teen Space some days after school.


The Urbana Neighborhood Connection Center (Hartle and E Main Street, Urbana, IL 61801) has regular Fab Lab workshop programming and digital media production tools for eligible enrolled youth, UNCC operates most Mon-Fri – 3 to 5:30 pm.

Oakwood Public Library (110 E Finley, ​Oakwood, IL 61858) has a small mini fab lab sponsored by UI Extension and 4-H. They run programming once a month on Saturdays.

Public Open Hours

Fall Semester 2018 hours are as follows:

  • Monday 5 to 9 pm
  • Tuesday 5 to 9 pm
  • Wednesday 6 to 10 pm
  • Thursday 4 to 8 pm
  • Friday 12 to 5 pm
  • Sunday 1 to 6 pm

We are available for scheduled classes, workshops and rentals in addition to the normal operating hours during the Fall and Spring Semester. The lab is typically closed during the following holidays: Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and two weeks for Christmas through New Years.
