Location / Hours

The CU Community Fab Lab main location is on the south end of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, adjacent to the ACES library, across the street from the green houses.

Community After-School Locations

Can’t get to the main lab? That’s okay, we have several locations around the community with access to Fab Lab equipment, programming, staff and volunteers. They were made possible through the Illinois DCEO funded Digital Literacy for ALL grant.

The Urbana Free Library (210 W Green Street, Urbana, IL 61801) hosts Teen Open Lab most Tue/Wed/Thu – 3 to 5:30 pm.

Champaign Public Library (200 W Green Street, Champaign, IL 61820) has Fab Lab equipment and programming available in their Teen Space most Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri – 3 to 5 pm.

The Urbana Neighborhood Connection Center (Hartle and E Main Street, Urbana, IL 61801) has scheduled Fab Lab workshop programming and digital media production tools for eligible enrolled youth, UNCC operates most Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri – 3 to 5:30 pm.

Oakwood Public Library (110 E Finley, ​Oakwood, IL 61858) has a small mini fab lab (3D printers, silhouette cutters, soldering irons, digital embroidery, small electronics) sponsored by UI Extension and 4-H. They run programming once a month on Saturdays and can facilitate some walk-in activities on a daily basis.

Public Open Hours

Spring Semester 2017 hours (until May 11th) are as follows:

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – 5 to 9 pm
  • Friday and Sunday – 1 to 6 pm

We are available for scheduled classes, workshops and rentals in addition to the normal operating hours. The lab is typically closed during the following holidays: Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas through New Years.
